Arsenal Considering Swap Deal For "Unbelievable" £1.2m-p/w Star

Arsenal could use Gabriel Martinelli as a makeweight in negotiations to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe, however there are doubts over whether they would be able to secure the move, according to a report from Football Transfers.

What's the latest Arsenal transfer news?

The Gunners are still weighing up new attacking signings this summer, with Ajax's Mohammed Kudus recently re-emerging as an option, according to journalist Charles Watts, who claims the Ghanaian "ticks a lot of boxes" due to his age and versatility.

Watts has also reported that Nicolas Pepe is set to leave the Emirates Stadium soon, which could free up the wages for Mikel Arteta to bring in some new options, saying: “We’ll have to wait and see but I think Arsenal, from their point of view, they would love someone from Saudi Arabia becoming interested in Pepe.

“We shall wait and see what happens but one thing’s for sure: he’s got no long term future at Arsenal. He’ll certainly be gone soon. He’s one of the highest earners, probably in the top five.”

Given that Mbappe reportedly earns £1.2m-per-week at PSG, Arsenal will seemingly need to fork out a huge sum on wages if they are to win the race for his signature, and they have now hatched a plan to sign the forward.

That is according to a report from Football Transfers, which states the Gunners may use Martinelli as a makeweight in negotiations to sign the Frenchman in 2024, amid his uncertain future with the French champions.

Real Madrid are among the favourites to sign the 24-year-old, while clubs from Saudi Arabia are also interested, and reports from France indicate a world-record breaking offer is set to be handed to PSG in the coming days.

As such, there are doubts over whether Arsenal would be able to win the race for the France international, but they have a package prepared, and it is no secret he admires the project on offer at the Emirates Stadium.

How many goals has Kylian Mbappe scored?

It is clear to see why a whole host of top clubs are circling for the attacker, as he has been extremely prolific in a PSG shirt for a number of years now, scoring a total of 212 goals in 260 appearances for the club, while also registering 98 assists.

Hailed as "unbelievable" by Fabrizio Romano, the former AS Monaco star has scored 40 goals in 70 caps for France, meaning he is already fifth on their list of all-time top scorers, at the age of just 24.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

The PSG star ranks highly on almost all attacking metrics over the past year, particularly impressing with his dribbling ability, ranking in the 99th percentile for progressive carries per 90, and in the 97th percentile for successful take-ons, when compared to his positional peers.

There is no doubt that Mbappe would be an incredible signing for Arsenal, and even though Martinelli has been very impressive, scoring 15 Premier League goals last term, it would be worth using him in negotiations if it helped seal the deal.

WATCH – How WI bounced Kohli out, and Dhoni and Jadhav innovated

Watch highlights of the key events from the third ODI between West Indies and India in Antigua

ESPNcricinfo staff30-Jun-2017All series long, West Indies have looked to bounce Virat Kohli, but on a damp surface that had seen rain pretty much throughout yesterday, the sticky steep bounce troubled Kohli much more than it ever did in the series. Kohli swayed out of a couple, fended at one that fell safe, and eventually couldn’t control one as he attempted a single to third man.In the 17th over of India’s innings, West Indies let the horse bolt. Yuvraj Singh nearly guided the first ball to gully and got a single. They responded by reinforcing the field with a slip to go with the gully, and Yuvraj took a single third ball. For some reason, though, they forgot to call the slip back in when Yuvraj came back on strike for the fifth ball. Kesrick Williams produced a regulation edge, which would have settled in the first slip’s lap and made a 300-ODI veteran his first ODI wicket. Instead Yuvraj got four. The horse kept coming back, though. After letting Yuvraj off early, West Indies reprieved him again when they didn’t review a plumb not-out on-field call off the bowling of Devendra Bishoo. Four overs later, though, Bishoo appealed for a similar lbw, drew a similar response from umpire Dharmasena, but reviewed this time and got the decision in his favour. As MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav took 81 off the last 7.4 overs on a slow pitch, they needed some innovation. Dhoni targeted Jason Holder, stunningly fetching one length ball from wide outside off and depositing it flat over square leg for six. Jadhav saw Dhoni’s innovation, and raised him a sweep shot off Miguel Cummins, having gone on a knee and well outside off well before Cummins released, and then pulling off the shot with surprising ease thanks to his still head.Brought on to bowl in the 11th over, Hardik Pandya used the bouncer effectively, to break a 45-run second-wicket partnership between Shai and Kyle Hope. He accounted for both batsmen in his spell using the short ball, ending with returns of 32 for 2 in six overs

Palace Could Solve Olise Injury Blow By Signing £25m ‘Nightmare’

Arnaut Danjuma is hoping for a move back to the Premier League this summer, with Crystal Palace among his potential suitors, according to Jack Rosser of The Sun.

The London club will need to find a way to replace the impact of Michael Olise after the winger suffered an injury blow that will see him miss the start of the Premier League season.

Crystal Palace transfer news – will they sign Arnaut Danjuma?

With Danjuma keen on a move back to the Premier League, a move to Crystal Palace could be on the cards this summer.

The Villarreal winger spent the second half of last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, but struggled to ever really gain an influential role in a struggling side, playing just 162 minutes in the league – the equivalent of just under two games.

As per Rosser, Villarreal want £25m for Danjuma this summer, but are open to another loan move in which could be positive news for Palace.

Would Arnaut Danjuma replicate Olise's quality?

Without Olise, Palace are undoubtedly a worse side. Last season, the Frenchman was involved in 13 goals for the London side, with 11 assists to his name.

Replacing that quality will be no easy task at the start of the season, but Palace will be left with no choice after his recent injury. And that's where Danjuma could come in.

Although he struggled to make the desired impact at Spurs, the 26-year-old has previously shone in England for Bournemouth, where he scored 15 times in the Championship, earning a move to Villarreal.

arnaut-danjuma-premier-league-everton-transfers

It was his debut season in Spain when Danjuma really burst into life, scoring 16 goals in all competitions, including six in the Champions League as the Yellow Submarine reached the semi-final stage.

So, the quality is certainly there, it's just about unlocking it. It could be said that around more unorthodox players such as Eberechi Eze, the winger could rediscover his best form.

When compared, both Danjuma and Olise are glaringly similar at their best when it comes to output. The reported Palace target completed more take-ons per 90 at his best for Villarreal in his debut season, whilst also enjoying a better take-on success percentage.

So, the ability to take players out of games in one-on-one situations that Roy Hodgson would lose without Olise can be gained by bringing Danjuma to Selhurst Park this summer.

In the Netherlands winger, you wouldn't be getting a player who assists as often as his French counterpart, but you would be getting a more natural goalscorer. And, given that Palace's top scorer last season was Eze with ten goals, another player who knows where the back of the net is wouldn't go amiss.

Speaking on Danjuma's quality, Kevin Phillips told Football Insider back in 2022: "On his day he is a nightmare for defenders. He can create and score goals. He can hurt any defence with his pace and directness.

“I know it was in the Championship but he’s proved he can perform in this country. I think he’d be available for reasonable money as well. I don’t think he’d cost the world.

“He is a player who can hurt any defence on his day. He’s shown that countless times. Players like him are a rarity in this day and age.”

With that said, it is clear that, if Palace do sign Danjuma, they'd be getting themselves a solution to their enforced Olise absence.

Burnley Make Bid To Sign "Highly Talented" Defender

Burnley have made an offer to sign Anderlecht defender Noah Sadiki, with contacts advancing with the player’s agent, according to Fabrizio Romano.

What’s the latest Burnley transfer news?

The Clarets and Vincent Kompany have wasted no time in adding to their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League for the 2023/24 season.

Centre-back Jordan Beyer has arrived from Borussia Monchengladbach, whereas full-back Dara O’Shea has come in from West Brom at a combined cost of €22m. There could be more defensive additions over the coming weeks, though, with Sadiki on the club’s radar.

Romano took to Twitter in the last 48 hours to provide a transfer update from Turf Moor regarding Burnley and Sadiki. The transfer expert revealed that an offer worth around €1m has been made, with talks advancing with the player’s agent.

“Burnley have submitted an official bid for Belgian fullback Noah Sadiki — deal being negotiated with Anderlecht around €1m.

“Contacts advancing with player’s agent Christopher Mandiangu.”

Who is Noah Sadiki?

Sadiki is just 18 years of age and is primarily a right-back who can also play on the left or even in a holding midfield role if required.

The Belgian has come through Anderlecht’s academy, so Kompany may have been keeping an eye on him during his time as manager of the Jupiler Pro League side.

Hailed as one of Anderlecht’s “highly talented” teenagers by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, Sadiki has made 19 senior appearances for his current employers, turning out in numerous positions.

He’s valued at a career-high €2m by Transfermarkt and is out of contract in just over 12 months time, so Burnley could be making a shrewd signing, if their €1m bid is accepted.

The Belgium U20 international could come in and rival the likes of O’Shea, Connor Roberts and Vitinho at right-back, or he could be initially sent out on loan with a view to breaking through into the first team in the future, but it looks as if a transfer is one to watch over the coming weeks.

Cook presses for spin-bowling coach

Alastair Cook has said that the ECB needs to give serious consideration to employing a full-time spin-bowling coach for the national side after the punishment inflicted on the England attack in India.Cook observed how his spinners, specifically Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid, had appeared more comfortable and confident when Saqlain Mushtaq was with the team as a spin-bowling consultant, a stay which ended after the third Test in Mohali and that had already been an extension on the original deal which had only covered the first Test in Rajkot.England have not had a full-time spin-bowling coach since Mushtaq Ahmed ended his tenure in 2014. Saqlain was first used by England last summer when he joined the squad during the Test series against Pakistan and he has made a favourable impression.”The coincidence when Saqlain was around and how much better we bowled as a group, that’s something the system or whoever needs to look at, in terms of our spinners,” Cook said. While Moeen struggled ever to really gain a foothold in the series with the ball, Rashid’s returns certainly back up Cook’s view. Rashid took 18 of his 23 wickets in the series during the three Tests when Saqlain was present. In those matches he averaged 28.67 while in the final two Tests he took five wickets at 69.England used six spin bowlers throughout the series: Moeen, Rashid, Zafar Ansari, Liam Dawson, Gareth Batty and Joe Root. Their combined returns across the five Tests amounted to 40 wickets at 48.10, which was second worst return for a group of English spinners in India, behind the 1992-93 side. On that tour, a 3-0 whitewash, India’s batsmen flayed the frontline combination of John Emburey, Phil Tufnell and Ian Salisbury to such an extent that Graeme Hick emerged as the leading spinner. Salisbury had begun the tour as a net bowler before being drafted into the Test side after Emburey and Tufnell had been treated with disdain in the warm-ups.Significantly, too, the class of 2016 also conceded runs at a higher rate – 3.55 an over – than on any previous tour of India, which meant Cook was unable to rely on them even for control during long days in the field. The lack of control from the spinners had also been exposed during the two Tests in Bangladesh, while there had been the same problem against Pakistan in the UAE last year when England’s quick bowlers had been outstanding but any pressure was released when the spinners bowled.”I think everyone can see we are suited to playing in seaming conditions,” Cook said. “There’s no point hiding behind that fact. These conditions have tested us to our limits and I really don’t want to be disrespectful to Mo and Adil but they are not as good as Ashwin and Jadeja yet. They haven’t quite got the control and consistency, certainly in the first innings when there’s not much happening.”Mo has done an amazing job for us over a long period in terms of becoming England’s No. 1 spinner. He’s two wickets away from 100 so he’s done amazing things and will only get better and better.”Without being disrespectful, without two gun, world-class spinners, winning in these conditions is going to be hard. In other conditions with our seamers and spinners, who are decent without being completely world-class, we’ll compete with anyone. But this is as hard as it gets for this side at the moment.”

Bayliss hails Rajkot Test as England's best performance in his tenure

Trevor Bayliss has hailed England’s performance in the first Test against India as “the best since I’ve been with the team.”Appointed just ahead of the 2015 Ashes, Bayliss’ period in charge as coach has seen notable victories over Australia at Edgbaston and Trent Bridge, and an impressive win over South Africa in Johannesburg. But although England were held to a draw in Rajkot, Bayliss was delighted with the commitment shown by the side in gruelling conditions and on surfaces on which English players traditionally struggle. And, so impressed was Bayliss with the improvement in his team since the defeat in Dhaka, he suggested it proved England could win the series if they maintained that level of performance.”Win, lose or draw, I thought effort-wise that’s probably the best performance we’ve had since I’ve been with the team,” Bayliss said.”The way the guys played in this Test should give us plenty of confidence. Our batters played well against their spinners, and our spinners and seamers all bowled well. We acquitted ourselves very well.”We’re under no illusions that these next four Tests could be even tougher than this one. But if we put in more performances like that, we’ll probably be playing consistent cricket – and that’s what we’re after – and we’ll have a chance of winning more games. So we’ve got to continue putting in that effort. But if we do, we’ve a chance of winning.”Bayliss was particularly effusive in his praise for new opening batsman Haseeb Hameed. The 19-year-old debutant scored more than 100 runs in the match and evoked in Bayliss some of the same characteristics of Kumar Sangakkara, who he worked with during his time as Sri Lanka coach.”It’s early days for Hameed,” Bayliss said. “But the early signs are that he’s a very, very good player.”For one so young, 19, his composure is very good. He knows how his game works – something that players years in advance of him would like to have – and without wanting to put too much pressure on him, the signs are good.”He’s one of those batters, a little bit like a Sangakkara, who just loves batting. Whether it’s in the nets, having throwdowns or with a tennis ball in the changing room, he just loves to have a bat in his hand.”It was obviously a very good start. He’s been with the squad for about six weeks, but it feels like he’s been here for two or three years – he’s got that type of a personality.”Without committing himself, Bayliss hinted England may well stick to the same XI for the second Test in Visakhapatnam, which starts from November 17. Stating he liked the idea of playing three spinners of varying types – England picked an offspinner (Moeen Ali), a left-arm spinner (Zafar Ansari) and a legspinner (Adil Rashid) in Rajkot – his words suggested Gareth Batty (also an offspinner) may miss out again.”We went with these three guys, but we could very easily have gone with Batty,” Bayliss said. “He’s actually also been bowling quite well. But we thought on this occasion we would have a look at a spinner of each type and those three performed well in this game.”James Anderson also looks set for more frustration. While England are encouraged by his progress, he may have to wait until the third Test to make his return from injury with Bayliss requiring a little more evidence before selecting him as one of a three-man seam attack in tough conditions.”We’ll assess him in the next couple of days,” Bayliss said. “But from all reports, he’s been bowling well in the nets. The medical staff say he’s in better shape than he was when he came back and played against Pakistan. We’ll put him through his paces again. He’s a guy who’s always looked after himself, so he’s nicely fit.”

Burnley Could Find McNeil 2.0 By Signing £18k-p/w Ace

Burnley romped their way to the Championship title with 101 points to secure promotion to the Premier League and Vincent Kompany must now navigate the summer transfer window to improve his squad.

Back in April, it was reported that the Clarets were interested in a deal to sign Ryan Kent on a free transfer from Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers.

Since then, the Gers have confirmed that the former Liverpool attacker will be leaving upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the month, which means that Burnley will be able to snap him up for nothing if they can beat other clubs to his signature.

The £18k-per-week magician has also been linked with Udinese, Bologna, and Fenerbahce and this suggests that Kompany will need to convince the forward to turn down other offers.

How did Ryan Kent perform this season?

He enjoyed a strong campaign in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers and showcased his creative flair, which could make him Burnley's new Dwight McNeil.

Burnley winger Dwight McNeil.

Kent scored three goals and assisted ten in 29 appearances in the top flight for the Light Blues and produced 2.2 key passes per match for his teammates, which led to nine 'big chances' in total.

This came after the 26-year-old magician scored three times and assisted an eye-catching 19 goals in 46 outings in all competitions for the club in the 2021/22 season.

Journalist Andrew Dickson once claimed that the ace is "completely unplayable" when he is at his best and the aforementioned statistics illustrate that as the maestro has proven that he has the quality to provide chances and assists on a regular basis from out wide.

This makes him a potential match-winner for his side as the wizard has the ability to carve open opposition defences to create openings for his fellow attackers.

Therefore, Kent could be Burnley's new McNeil as the academy graduate had similar qualities during his time at Turf Moor. Prior to joining Everton last summer, the England U21 international was an excellent creator for the Clarets. He created 23 'big chances' in his last three Premier League seasons combined and made at least 1.3 key passes per game.

The 23-year-old assisted 17 goals in 147 outings for the Clarets and only scored seven times. This shows that, like Kent, McNeil is a creative threat who does not offer much in the way of goals from a wide position, which is why Kompany could find the next version of the Toffees star by swooping for the soon-to-be ex-Rangers dynamo.

Personal choice for England players over Bangladesh tour – Morgan

Eoin Morgan has indicated that individual players will be given the choice of whether they want to be included for the tour of Bangladesh that is scheduled for October

Eoin Morgan, the captain of England’s limited-overs sides, has indicated that individual players will be given the choice of whether they want to be included for the tour of Bangladesh that is scheduled for October. The England one-day squad are due to be given a security briefing on Thursday by the three-member delegation that recently returned from the subcontinent.Reg Dickason, the ECB’s security advisor, David Leatherdale, the chief executive of the Professional Cricketers’ Association, and John Carr, ECB director of cricket operations, will present their findings after completing venue inspections in Bangladesh and India last week. The BCB described their visit as a “positive” one and said there was no immediate timeframe in which England were expected to make a decision.Morgan has previously expressed his concerns about going to Bangladesh, in the wake of a terrorist attack in Dhaka in July. He said he expected the players to play a full part in the discussions and that there would be “room for a personal decision” if individuals were reluctant to travel.Alastair Cook, the Test captain, will attend the meeting in London, travelling down from Leicester where he is involved in a county match for Essex. The one-day squad would depart for Bangladesh first, leaving on September 30, with three ODIs scheduled ahead of a two-Test series later in October.”The briefing will be Thursday evening, with head of security Reg Dickason, a rep from the PCA and John Carr from the ECB,” Morgan said. “They’ve been doing the reccy and we’ll be debriefed by them. Alastair will be there and other guys who are available will come.”They’ll debrief us on the findings on both tours and we’ll chat about it, it has to be quite open. People have missed tours in the past so you have to make guys feel safe to go. It’s a decision you’d rather get out of the way sooner rather than later. There’s always room for a personal decision, you also have to understand guys might have different priorities.”In 2001, Robert Croft and Andrew Caddick opted out of the tour to India following the 9/11 terrorist attacks in America.Current government advice from the Foreign Office currently states that there is “a heightened threat of further terrorist attacks” in Bangladesh and warns those travelling to minimise their exposure to “crowded areas and places where westerners are known to gather”.Australia pulled out of their tour to Bangladesh last year due to security fears and also did not send a team to the Under-19 World Cup held in the country in January and February. When asked earlier in the month, England’s assistant coach, Paul Farbrace, said there had been no discussions about giving players the chance to opt out and that it would be a “huge call” to pull out of the tour. “Player and staff safety is paramount but it’s a huge decision for a country to decide not to go,” he said. “Bangladesh are looking forward to us going.”
