The Spaniard who spent the last season on loan at Manchester United and Brentford was in Tottenham's matchday squad for three straight games but missed out on the call-up from Postecoglou in their last Premier League clash. The same is likely to be the case once again when Spurs take on Liverpool on Sunday, December 22 in the Premier League.

£30 million Chelsea fan favourite now ready to leave the club after U-turn

A Chelsea fan favourite is prepared to pack his bags and leave Stamford Bridge this summer after making a U-turn behind-the-scenes.

Most recently, Todd Boehly and BlueCo gave the green-light for Chelsea to sell Cobham academy graduate and star midfielder of last season, Conor Gallagher, to Atletico Madrid for around £38 million.

The transfer has been met with real backlash and could prove to be one of Chelsea's most unpopular decisions in recent memory, with World Cup winner and ex-Premier League star Emmanuel Petit calling the move "very sad".

"I’m very frustrated with what’s happening at the club. I’ve been worried for the last two years under this ownership, there have been so many bad decisions and so many changes," said Petit.

"They have changed everything. The environment is not that same at Chelsea anymore, inside and outside the club. The connection with the fans is missing. I look at the project, signing all these young players for huge money on incredibly long contracts and it doesn’t make sense. They’ve put him under pressure. They gave him an ultimatum, which was sign the contract or we’ll sell you.

"If I was Gallagher, I would be screaming with anger. He gave everything for the club and fought for the badge. He saw other players coming in who had achieved nothing getting better terms. I think it’s very sad and I feel sorry for the player."

After Enzo Maresca and co opted to offload Gallagher to Atletico, rather than lose him on a free next year, it is believed a few more players will follow the England international out of west London. Armando Broja has attracted interest from Juventus, Everton and Wolves, with Chelsea apparently working to sell the Albania international and fellow academy graduate by next week.

Meanwhile, Romelu Lukaku is still in limbo after agreeing a three-year deal to join Napoli, and the deal could even have a direct effect on Chelsea's move for Napoli star Victor Osimhen. The possibility of Chelsea signing Osimhen with Lukaku going the other way has been reported by reliable media sources, so this could be one to watch before deadline day.

Trevoh Chalobah ready to leave Chelsea after pulling U-turn

Chelsea fan favourite and versatile defender Trevoh Chalobah has also been heavily linked with an exit after being left out of the club's recent pre-season tour of the USA.

The boyhood supporter and Cobham academy graduate impressed at the back end of last season as one of their standout defenders under Mauricio Pochettino, but it is believed Chelsea could still move to offload the 24-year-old for around £30 million.

Now, HITC have an update on the player's stance, after what has been questionable treatment from the club. The outlet writes that Chalobah is ready for talks to leave Chelsea after changing his mind about an exit behind the scenes, with Crystal Palace, Fulham and West Ham among his admirers.

The Blues informed Chalobah that he's not part of Maresca's plans at Chelsea, and the feeling now appears mutual.

    WHAT SAHA SAID

Quizzed by on what happens next, Ronaldo’s former United team-mate Saha said: “I don't know if Ronaldo will come back to the Premier League, because there’s nothing that you can predict with this guy, so it’s hard to know for sure. Who would have said he would have scored that amount of goals by now? This guy is chasing 1000. I don't know what to say.

“Ronaldo has eyes on the stuff that normal people don't have. I would still think that whatever he's got in his mind, he's capable of doing it because he's obsessed. Perhaps a chairman wants to take a chance on him. There are still a lot of things that Ronaldo can do – he’s ageing like a fine wine.”

Mbappe's struggles in a Real Madrid shirt continued on Wednesday night after he missed a penalty that would have drawn his side level against Liverpool in the Champions League. The 25-year-old failed to make an impact on the big stage in the absence of Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior and made headlines for his poor performance. Team-mate Bellingham had sympathy for the Frenchman in his post-match interview, admitting he is under huge pressure to deliver for Los Blancos.

    WHAT BELLINGHAM SAID

Speaking to TNT Sports, Bellingham said: "It's [Mbappe's penalty] a big moment in the game but it can happen. He's a wonderful player but the pressure that he holds because of how good he is is huge. The penalty is not the reason why we lost the game. As a collective we weren't good enough on the night, they performed better than us and it's as simple as that. Kylian can keep his head high, I know for sure that he will produce many more moments that are huge for this club."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

It is inevitable that some players need time to adjust to their new clubs, which is certainly the case for Mbappe. He has gone from being the star of Paris Saint-Germain and the French league to a team full of superstars and expectations that rival Cristiano Ronaldo during his time at Madrid. Once he shakes off the nerves and complications of his role under Carlo Ancelotti, the World Cup winner will surely start firing on a regular basis again.

Kyle Mayers 210*, Nkrumah Bonner 86 script West Indies' historic chase

Debutant Kyle Mayers scored a magnificent 210 not out as West Indies pulled off the fifth-highest successful chase in Test cricket, and highest in Asia, nailing down 395 for a miraculous three-wicket win on the final evening in Chattogram. In a display of exemplary temperament and power-hitting, Mayers struck 20 fours and seven sixes during his 310-ball stay at the crease. When he hit the winning run, a hurried single to mid-on, only 15 balls were left in the Test. During the course of his innings, he became only the sixth batsman to score a double-century on Test debut, and also the sixth overall to score a double-ton in the fourth innings of a Test. Unsurprisingly, Mayers is the only one on both lists.Related

For the most part of the final day, Mayers was accompanied by fellow debutant Nkrumah Bonner, who himself struck a gritty 86. The duo added 216 for the fourth wicket and kept Bangladesh wicketless for the first two sessions of the day. That left West Indies needing 129 in a minimum of 33 overs in the final session. Bonner, who had survived a stumping chance against Nayeem Hasan before tea, hit Taijul Islam for a six in the first over after the interval but was lbw on the very next ball. Jermaine Blackwood too fell soon after. After slog-sweeping Taijul over long-on for six, he went for another big hit against Hasan, only to be bowled for 9.With West Indies 292 for 5 and the target still 103 runs away, Bangladesh had their hopes renewed. Suddenly there were four men close to the bat. But it also meant there were many gaps in the outfield and Mayers and Joshua Da Silva took advantage of that, hitting a four each in one Hasan over. A few minutes later, when Mayers pulled Hasan over deep midwicket for a six to bring the target down to 76, Bangladesh were forced to spread the field once again.Mayers was at his striking-best when the last hour commenced. With 61 required at that stage, he backed himself to clear the boundary-riders and scored 49 by himself, in just 40 balls, bludgeoning five sixes and a four. Taijul, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman, no one was spared. In a 100-run stand with Da Silva for the sixth wicket, Mayers’ contribution was 80.The credit must go to Da Silva as well who played a perfect foil to Mayers and must have calmed the nerves in the dressing room. He was eventually bowled for 20 when the target was just three runs away. Kemar Roach also fell on the same score – caught at leg slip off Miraz, who ended with a hundred and eight wickets in the match – but by then the result was sealed.Bangladesh, however, will rue the chances they missed and the reviews they didn’t take, apart from losing Shakib Al Hasan to a thigh injury on the second day of the Test.West Indies started the day on 110 for 3, and in the first hour alone there were at least three opportunities Bangladesh should have been converted into wickets. Mayers was on 47 when Taijul got one to straighten from around the wicket to hit the batsman on the pads. There was a loud appeal for lbw but umpire Richard Illingworth deemed it not out. Bangladesh didn’t opt for the review but replays showed Mayers would have been out had they done so.Shortly afterwards, Miraz induced an outside edge off Mayers bat but this time Najmul Hossain Shanto put it down at first slip. The resulting single took Mayers to his fifty.Bangladesh missed another opportunity to overturn an on-field decision when Hasan got one to turn sharply from outside off and ping Bonner’s pads. Illingworth once again ruled it in the batsman’s favour. Replays, once again, confirmed he was wrong. Bonner was on 25 at that point.Kyle Mayers gets a hug from fellow debutant Nkrumah Bonner during their double-century stand•BCB

The Bangladesh spinners were also guilty of not bowling enough full-length deliveries, allowing Bonner and Mayers to wait on the back foot and adjust to whatever turn and bounce the pitch offered.Mayers was the aggressor right from the start, cutting and pulling spinners to the square boundaries. When Rahman was brought into the attack, he welcomed him with a four and six off successive deliveries. Bonner, meanwhile, was happy to keep his end occupied. By lunch, their contrasting approaches led to the comparisons with Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant’s knocks in India’s win against Australia in Brisbane last month. The two, however, seemed to have switched roles in the second session. In the second over after lunch, Bonner cleared his front leg and lofted Taijul over mid-on. It fetched the batsman four runs but the impact was such that Bangladesh went on the defensive after that shot. For the next few overs, they had just one close-in fielder, either a slip or a short leg, for spinners. With a single off Hasan, Bonner brought up his half-century, in 164 balls. Bangladesh opted for the second new ball after the 81st over and seemed to have found success immediately when umpire Sharfuddoula gave Bonner lbw off Taijul. Bonner, though, knew he had got an inside edge and got the decision reversed. But Mayers found himself stuck. Having reached 90 in 146 balls, he took another 32 balls to bring up his maiden Test hundred. And it was a streaky boundary between slip and gully, via an outside edge off Rahman, that took him to the landmark. What followed was a slew of loose shots from Mayers, all in that Rahman over. He was beaten outside off twice in the next two balls and, a ball later, miscued two consecutive lofted attempts. Luckily for West Indies, both fell away from the fielders. It took a message from the dressing room at the end of the over for Mayers to regain his composure, which he didn’t lose till the end of the match.

Big runs on order for England in New Zealand as focus moves to World Cup defence

The 2017 champions haven’t played an ODI for more than a year ahead of NZ tour

Valkerie Baynes10-Feb-2021Big runs and individuals who stand up on the big stage will be the blueprint for England Women as they take a significant step towards their World Cup title defence on this month’s tour of New Zealand.Heather Knight, the England captain, has been poring over her team’s ODI stats with head coach Lisa Keightley, who is yet to take charge in a one-day match despite being appointed in 2019, with the coronavirus pandemic reducing England’s international schedule to a five-match T20I series against West Indies last September. That followed England’s washed-out T20 World Cup semi-final, where India advanced as group winners and lost to hosts Australia in the final.”It felt like we were starting to come together as a side and starting to build,” Knight said of the T20 World Cup campaign. “There’s been some real depth added, and some individuals have really stood up which has been really nice.Related

“In general I think we’ve embraced the way we want to play in being really aggressive and taking responsibility as an individual to go out and put in really good performances. The signs are really positive, and we need to try and continue that momentum after what has been a disjointed year of international cricket.”We’ve scored some really big totals in ODI cricket previously and we want do that more often. Consistency and continuing those really good individual performances will be really key for us in this series.”The New Zealand series begins on February 23 with three ODIs, followed by three T20Is, the latter being double-headers with the men’s matches between Australia and New Zealand. The ODIs represent England’s first matches in the format since December 2019 when rain prevented a result in the last fixture of their three-match series against Pakistan, which England won 2-0, in Malaysia. In that match, legspinner Sarah Glenn claimed four wickets in just her third ODI and she has gone on to add depth to England’s bowling attack, alongside left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone, with emerging offspinner Mady Villiers yet to make her 50-over debut after nine T20Is.During the series against Pakistan, Nat Sciver, Knight, Tammy Beaumont, Fran Wilson and Danni Wyatt made valuable contributions with the bat after Beaumont and Sciver had made runs in an otherwise lean white-ball portion of the Ashes series with the bat for England.”It’ll be great to get back to playing ODI cricket again,” said Knight, who led her side to victory at the 2017 World Cup and who hopes to defend the title when the tournament is held in New Zealand from March next year.”We haven’t played in over a year and it’s really important that we can get as much preparation as possible in the 50-over stuff and get used to the conditions ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup over here next year. We’re playing at grounds that will be used at the World Cup, which is great, but first and foremost it’s important to just get out there as a team and enjoy our cricket again – we’re trying to build as a side ahead of what will be a huge year for us in 2022.”Heather Knight hits the nets in Queenstown•Getty ImagesEngland’s 16-strong squad for the New Zealand tour trained together for the first time on Wednesday in Queenstown, having completed their 14-day quarantine period in Christchurch the previous day. A special exemption meant that during quarantine they were able to train in small bubbles of eight. Knight said players were now enjoying the freedom of being able to live as “normal” people in New Zealand, where Covid-19 has been kept under control, while the UK remains in lockdown.”We’ve been training in varying sizes of bubbles for about two months so it’s so nice to have all the girls together,” Knight said. “The Kiwis will be pleased to hear that their quarantine is much better than what I experienced in Australia. I didn’t have an exemption in Australia during the Big Bash so it was literally 14 days by myself in a room.”All the players found it quite a good experience really, it was one we were dreading a little bit but being able to train that second week made a really big difference. It’s obviously what we’ve got to do at the moment to be able to play international cricket and it was perfectly fine in the end.”We’re privileged to be able to live a normal life as well – just to be able to go to a coffee shop in the morning – I think the girls are super grateful and very appreciative of being able to do that. We’re just so excited to be playing international cricket again, it’s been a long time and it’s also very important for the women’s game to have as much international cricket as possible.”England squad: Heather Knight (capt), Tammy Beaumont, Katherine Brunt, Kate Cross, Freya Davies, Sophia Dunkley, Sophie Ecclestone, Georgia Elwiss, Tash Farrant, Sarah Glenn, Amy Jones, Nat Sciver, Mady Villiers, Fran Wilson, Lauren Winfield-Hill, Danni Wyatt.New Zealand squad: Sophie Devine (capt), Natalie Dodd, Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Hayley Jensen, Fran Jonas, Amelia Kerr, Jess Kerr, Frankie Mackay, Katey Martin (wk), Hannah Rowe, Amy Satterthwaite (vice-capt), Lea Tahuhu

Crystal Palace want to sign 22 y/o who matched Eze’s assists last season

Crystal Palace are interested in making a move for a 22-year-old who matched Eberechi Eze's assist tally last season, according to a new update from renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Crystal Palace transfer news

Life under Oliver Glasner could barely have got off to a better start at Selhurst Park, with the Eagles impressing so much towards the end of last season in the Premier League. The key now is to show that it wasn't simply a flash in the pan with some new signings to ensure that doesn't happen.

Jaden Philogene is one player who has been linked with a summer switch to Palace, with the Hull City youngster viewed as an ideal replacement for Michael Olise, who is on the verge of completing a move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. Philogene registered 18 goal involvements (12 goals and six assists) in the Championship in 2023/24 and should only improve with age, with the Eagles tabling a bid for him.

It has also been claimed that the south London club currently lead the race to sign ex-Tottenham winger Ryan Sessegnon, who is looking to rebuild his career after a tough time of things, not yet reaching the high level many predicted he would when he was a teenager bursting onto the scene.

Arsenal's Emile Smith Rowe is another rumoured summer target for Palace, as the Englishman potentially looks to enjoy a fresh challenge rather than warming the substitutes' bench most weeks at the Emirates. He could be a hugely exciting signing, possessing quality in the final third.

Crystal Palace want to sign 22-year-old ace

According to Romano on X, Crystal Palace are keen on signing Monaco midfielder Maghnes Akliouche in the summer transfer window, with Paris Saint-Germain also one of the clubs interested in snapping him up:

"Maghnes Akliouche's also on the list of Crystal Palace after Paris Saint-Germain and more clubs as he's attracting lot of interest. AS Monaco director Thiago Scuro said that he's "confident to keep Akliouche and talks are ongoing to extend his contract."

It does feel as though Palace are trying to recruit some brilliant young talent this summer and Akliouche certainly falls into that bracket, having caught the eye in a Monaco shirt since emerging from the youth team.

The 22-year-old has made 53 appearances in total for his current club, and last season's tally of four assists in Ligue 1 was the same as Eze managed in the Premier League – within less game time, too.

Akliouche is also a two-cap France under-23 international, showing that he is a promising talent at international level, and the fact that he can shine in both an attacking-midfield role and out wide on the right is something that could appeal to Glasner, who will want fluidity on the pitch, as well as versatility and depth within his squad.

Bid: Crystal Palace make their move for "unbelievable" Olise replacement

The Eagles have wasted no time.

1 ByTom Cunningham Jul 7, 2024

PSG being in the mix to sign the Frenchman does act as a threat, and Monaco clearly don't want to let him go, but Palace should look at him as an eye-catching addition who could add an extra dimension in attacking areas.

فاروق جعفر ينتقد لاعب الزمالك: يجب أن يغير عقليته.. وجروس تعامل بذكاء مع الاتحاد

Spurs could finally banish Richarlison by signing "massive" £50m "dream"

Now the dust has settled, it would probably be fair to describe Ange Postecoglou's first Premier League season in charge of Tottenham Hotspur as a success.

The Australian managed to lead a Harry Kane-less side to Europa League qualification despite six teams scoring more than them and seven sides letting in fewer goals to boot.

However, with Champions League qualification the aim next season, Daniel Levy and Co have to step up and provide the manager with a proven goalscorer, and based on recent reports, they may just do that, which could be bad news for Richarlison.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have prioritised signing a 'marquee' striker this summer after failing to adequately replace Kane last year, and one of the players they are interested in is Bournemouth's Dominic Solanke.

Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.

Although a potential price is not mentioned in this story, a Football Insider report from earlier this year revealed that an offer in the region of £50m would likely be enough to tempt the Cherries into selling their star striker.

It wouldn't be a cheap deal to complete, but with how well the former Liverpool man has played this season and how effective he's looked in front of goal, it seems like one worth pursuing.

How Solanke compares to Richarlison

Now, as much as Richarlison has improved this season under Postecoglou, when it comes to what matters most for a striker – scoring goals – he's been a clear second-best to Solanke for several years now.

For example, this season, the "dream" centre-forward, as described by former boss Gary O'Neil, has racked up a seriously impressive haul of 21 goals and four assists in 42 games, meaning he's averaged a goal involvement every 1.68 games. In contrast, the Brazilian's output of 12 goals and four assists in 31 games comes out to a goal involvement every 1.93 games on average.

It's not just been this year, though, as the Basingstoke-born forward managed to bag seven goals and seven assists in 35 games for a relegation-threatened Cherries outfit last season, while the former Everton man managed just three goals and four assists in as many games for a much better Spurs team.

It's not just the apparent difference in their ability to put the ball in the back of the net that makes the "absolutely massive" poacher, as O'Neil dubbed him, a more attractive prospect; it's also his availability.

Since the start of the 2020/21 campaign, the 26-year-old marksman has shown remarkable resilience, missing just nine games of football through injury, or an average of 2.25 a season. In contrast, the 48-capped Brazilian has missed 36, which comes out to an average of nine per season.

Ultimately, while Richarlison might have the higher profile in world football thanks to his international exploits when it comes to pure goalscoring, there is no competition, and with Postecoglou desperately in need of someone able to reliably find the back of the net, signing Solanke feels like a no-brainer.
