وتلاقى الفريقان على ملعب سانتياجو برنابيو في إياب دور الـ16 من دوري أبطال أوروبا، مع العلم أن مباراة الذهاب انتهت بفوز باريس سان جيرمان بهدف دون رد.

وكان الشوط الأول من مباراة الإياب قد حسمها باريس سان جيرمان بهدف كيليان مبابي، ولكن ريال مدريد عاد في الشوط الثاني عن طريق هاتريك كريم بنزيما.

وقال بنزيما في تصريحات نشرتها شبكة “كادينا كوبي” الإسبانية: “لم أشاهد المباراة بأكملها مرة أخرى، لكني رأيت الفرص والأهداف، تبدو لي ليلة لا تُنسى بسبب البطولة والأجواء والأهداف والعودة”.

وأوضح: “بعد مباراة الذهاب كنت مركزًا وجاهز لمباراة الإياب، بدأت المباراة بحماس كبير، كان أسبوع التدريب جيدًا جدًا وفي ذلك اليوم كانت المجموعة بأكملها جاهزة للعب مباراة جيدة”.

ويتواجد الفرنسي بأربعة عشر هدفًا خلف راؤول، لكن بنزيما يقلل من أهمية أرقام التهديف ويركز على إمكانية الفوز بالألقاب: “ما أريده هو الفوز بالألقاب لأنني أعلم أنني إذا فزت بالألقاب سأحقق الكثير من الأهداف، ثم عندما أكون أقرب إلى ذلك يمكننا التحدث، الآن علينا مواصلة العمل وعندما تتاح لي الفرصة لتسجيل الأهداف، سأفعل ذلك”.

وعن المدرب كارلو أنشيلوتي، قال بنزيما: “أنا سعيد جدًا وفخور بالعمل معه، يمنحني المزيد من الثقة، والمزيد من الحافز لمساعدة زملائي والفريق، يمنحني المزيد من كل شيء للقيام بالعديد من الأشياء على أرض الملعب، للأشخاص الذين يأتون لمشاهدة المباراة ودعمنا، هذا يجعلني سعيدًا جدًا”.

Glasgow Rangers fans have been reacting to a photo suggesting the Ibrox gates are being boarded up to stop fans from being able to watch the 55 trophy-lift celebrations this weekend.

The Gers will be awarded the Premiership trophy at Ibrox on Saturday for the 55th time in their history. Their status as champions has long been secured, and both the players and the supporters will be able properly celebrate their success – as long as they avoid defeat, they will have gone the whole season unbeaten (BBC).

At Ibrox, it is possible to see the pitch through the famous gates. However, in an attempt to avoid fans seeing the celebrations, and therefore to avoid big crowds outside the stadium, it appears the club have decided to board them up.

A photo of the preparations was shared on Twitter by @RangersOnTour_, and it attracted plenty of attention from the supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Crystal Palace were unable to make Roy Hodgson’s last ever game in charge of the Eagles a Selhurst Park a memorable once, losing 3-1 to Arsenal.

The former England boss announced his decision to leave the capital club earlier in the week and would have been desperate to have a fond farewell in front of the 6,500 Palace fans in attendance.

However, it wasn’t to be for Hodgson, who witnessed Nicolas Pepe and Gabrielle Martinelli slot home injury time efforts to secure all three points for the Gunners.

It’s been a commendable, if not enthralling, four years in south London for the 73-year-old, but he’ll have been disappointed to not go out with a bang in front of the club’s loyal supporters.

One man who notably let Hodgson, and himself. down was goalkeeper Vicente Guaita. The experienced shot-stopper found himself back in the starting XI after being dropped to the bench against Aston Villa, but he certainly didn’t take his chance to shine.

As per SofaScore, the 34-year-old recorded a meagre rating of just 5.8/10, the lowest score recorded by anyone on the Selhurst Park pitch.

The Spaniard had a terrible passing accuracy of 45% as he kept giving the ball back to the Gunners. He also completed just six of his 17 long balls, and failed to make a single save throughout the 90 minutes.

It’s been a below-par campaign for Guaita, with WhoScored awarded his efforts throughout 2020/21 with a seriously low 6.46/10, and it represents quite the capitulation following his previous efforts between the Palace sticks.

After an incredible performance against Tottenham Hotspur, Hodgson showered the keeper in praise, lauding his efforts as Palace clung onto a draw.

“Of course, in the last five minutes in particular Vicente showed his true class. We gave away a couple of free kicks which I wasn’t too happy to have given away. When the ball can be delivered in our penalty area, and that led to corner kicks, that’s when Vicente showed his true class with two magnificent saves.” said the former Liverpool boss.

“The goalkeeper is a very important part of every team, and we’re very fortunate to have a good one.”

But, with Hodgson set to leave and Jack Butland pushing for a place in the starting line-up, Guaita needs to prove himself and rediscover his best form if he wants to maintain his place in the Palace first-team next year as a new manager will want every player to earn a place in his line up.

Xisco Munoz’s Watford are considering a move for Mbaye Diagne this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Sky Sports, who claim that the Hornets, as well as Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace, have put the Galatasaray centre-forward on their list of potential targets in the upcoming transfer window.

It is also reported that, following West Bromwich Albion’s relegation to the Championship, a permanent move to the club where the 29-year-old has spent the second half of the season on loan now appears to be off the table.

Giaretta must move

Despite having only linked up with the Baggies in January, Diagne has nevertheless had an impact on the club over his 15 Premier League appearances. The £2.7m-rated striker bagging three goals and registering two assists, as well as averaging 2.2 shots and 0.5 key passes per game, culminating in an average WhoScored match rating of 6.72 – ranking him as West Brom’s seventh-best player in the top flight.

It would appear as if the £39,000-a-week (£2m per year) forward knows how to find the back of the net and provide assists in the Premier League, which is no mean feat when playing for a team with the third-worst attacking record in the division.

However, if the Galatasaray striker were to link up with Watford’s Ismaila Sarr – who has scored 18 goals and registered eight assists over his first two seasons in English football – this summer, it is not difficult to imagine Diagne benefiting from the creativity and clinical nature of the Hornets winger. In turn, that could easily lead to the 29-year-old returning much greater figures at Watford than during his time at West Brom.

As such, Cristiano Giaretta should be doing everything in his power to convince Diagne – who West Brom journalist Joe Masi described as “dangerous” – of a move to Watford this summer, as the 29-year-old would very much appear to be an impressive addition to Xisco’s attacking arsenal at Vicarage Road.
