Independentemente do lugar’, disse Geuvânio.

The 2012-13 New Zealand domestic season will feature 12 televised HRV Cup matches, on Friday nights during the Christmas holiday period. New Zealand chief executive David White, in a board release, said the deal to broadcast part of the domestic Twenty20 competition was ‘an excellent result’ for the sport in the country.”Having the HRV Cup on Friday nights is an excellent result for cricket, with more people getting the chance to see top quality competition. We believe it’s the best of both worlds,” White said. “There’s the opportunity to showcase the HRV Cup in living rooms across the country throughout November and December, while still catering for cricket lovers during the popular holiday period.”The HRV Cup will be played from November 2 to January 20, with the 50-overs competition, the Ford Trophy following. The Ford Trophy will have a five-week window: the first of eight rounds begin on February 26, with the final on March 30, also set to be televised. The first-class tournament, the Plunket Shield, will be played on either side of Christmas: the first 16 rounds will be played before Christmas, and the remaining 14 from the end of January.

A captain’s innings from Will Bosisto steered Australia into the semi-finals after they were in serious danger of being knocked out by Bangladesh in Townsville. Australia, the hosts and defending champions, knocked over Bangladesh for 171 but faced major trouble early in the chase as they slumped to 11 for 3 in the sixth over, when Bosisto came to the crease. The opener Cameron Bancroft was caught behind off Taskin Ahmed for one and Abu Jayed picked up Meyrick Buchanan and Kurtis Patterson for ducks, but it was the fourth wicket that caused some consternation at the ground, when the bowler Soumya Sarkar mankaded Jimmy Peirson for 21. However, following that, Bosisto and Travis Head rebuilt the innings for Australia with a 67-run partnership.Head fell for 44, the second wicket for Taskin, and Ashton Turner joined Bosisto with 72 runs required to keep Australia alive in the tournament. They eased Australia home with no further loss and with four overs remaining, and Bosisto was left unbeaten on 71 and Turner on 27 when the winning runs arrived. The victory was a relief for the Australians after Bangladesh made a promising start with the bat, having been sent in by Bosisto. Sarkar and Liton Das put on 64 for the opening wicket, but a middle-order collapse hurt Bangladesh. Sarkar struck 73 from 80 balls and was one of three wickets taken by the part-timer Head, and besides the openers the only other men to reach double figures were Naeem Islam jnr (12) and Noor Hossain (17).

Stuart Williams: ‘Simmons will want to use this series to prove his fitness and readiness to return’•AFP

Stuart Williams, the assistant coach of West Indies’ A side, has said that the series against India A, that begins on Saturday in Barbados, will be a good platform for Lendl Simmons to prove his fitness and return to the West Indies national team.Simmons, who scored 1100 runs from 36 ODIs at 34.37, hasn’t played top-flight cricket since he injured his left knee during the WICB Regional Four-Day Tournament in February this year. “Simmons will want to use this series to prove his fitness and readiness to return,” Williams said. “He was excellent for West Indies in limited-overs cricket last year and he will want to get back in the groove and re-start his international career.Williams said that the series also gave legspinner Devendra Bishoo and batsman Kraigg Brathwaite, who played in the Test series against Australia in April, a chance to find form. “The ‘A’ team serves several purposes, and sometimes players lose form, and this series will be a chance for players like Bishoo and Brathwaite to regain their form and look to get back into the senior side,” Williams said. “They are both young, talented players and they have a lot to offer West Indies cricket.”Speaking after a training session on Thursday, Williams said that the ‘cohesion and camaraderie’ between his player would help them challenge the visitors. “They have brought a team with some experienced players (at the international level) so this series will be a good test for us,” Williams said. “It is always good to compete against good, strong opposition and push yourself to the limit. Our players recognise that this will be a ‘big’ series for them as they look to show continued development and progress.”Both India and West Indies have a mix of youth and experience in their side on the tour. Bishoo, Brathwaite and Simmons are among the capped West Indies players in the squad, while India have Cheteshwar Pujara, Rohit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary, Rahul Sharma and Ashok Dinda in their mix.Williams said that he was confident his side would put on a good show, as a number of players have competed at this level before. “We have a great bunch of players and it is clear we have a very good team spirit,” he said. “We have formed a good unit and everyone is familiar with each other. The team has quite a few players who were part of the Sagicor High Performance Centre, as well as others who have played together for the West Indies A team before.” The series will feature three four-day matches, two Twenty20s and three 50-over matches.Edited by Carlyle Laurie

Willey five leads Northants to first win

Northamptonshire’s pace bowler David Willey, son of the former England all-rounder and umpire Peter Willey, took five wickets as his county claimed their first Division Two win of the season as they defeated Hampshire by 117 runs.

ScorecardNorthamptonshire’s pace bowler David Willey, son of the former England all-rounder and umpire Peter Willey, took five wickets as his county claimed their first Division Two win of the season as they defeated Hampshire by 117 runs.Northants added 56 to their overnight total in the morning before they declared on 232 for 9 to give Hampshire a winning target of 297 from 71 overs. It was a mark they fell considerably short of as they were bowled out for 179 despite Michael Carberry’s bright 61 off 88 balls, with Willey standing out with 5 for 39.Liam Dawson played Willey’s delivery on to his stumps in just the second over before Willey struck again when Sean Terry slashed him to David Sales at second slip. After a brief rain delay, Daggett accounted for the Australia international and stand-in captain Simon Katich, who had reached 31 when he caught at the wicket.James Vince then lasted just two balls before he returned to the pavilion when he edged Daggett to Hall at first slip. Former Zimbabwe international Sean Ervine fell cheaply by clipping Daggett to Middlebrook at gully to give the bowler his third wicket in 12 balls.Hampshire’s hopes effectively ended when Carberry was trapped lbw by Willey with the last ball before tea.Bates was the next to depart as he chopped Brooks on to his stumps before Willey bowled Hamza Riazuddin for a single. Willey then completed the third five-wicket haul of his career when Wood edged him to O’Brien and the result was wrapped up when Balcombe launched Brooks to Daggett at mid-wicket.

Botha to captain South Australia

Johan Botha will be released from his Cricket South Africa national contract after the ICC World Twenty20 in September to take up the captaincy of South Australia

Johan Botha will be released from his Cricket South Africa national contract after the ICC World Twenty20 in September to take up the captaincy of South Australia. The surprise move came after Botha impressed the powers that be in South Australia with his performance for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League in December and January. He will replace the state’s captain of the past two seasons, Michael Klinger, who had a strong season in all formats and captained South Australia to their first one-day title in 25 years. However, South Australia’s awful Sheffield Shield form – the Redbacks didn’t win a first-class match this summer and won only one the previous year – has prompted the state to look at ways the side can improve. The Cricket South Africa acting CEO, Jacques Faul, said the board had decided to release Botha from his contract because the opportunity to lead an Australian domestic side was too good to pass up. However, he stressed that Botha was not retiring from international cricket and remained committed to the national side in the long-term.”Johan has been an excellent servant of South African cricket for a lengthy period of time and we will never forget the manner in which he captained the Proteas to success in the absence of Graeme Smith in the away ODI series in Australia in 2009,” Faul said. “He has fully committed himself to the Proteas for the next five months which includes the away series in Zimbabwe and England as well as the World Twenty20.”He is at the moment our first choice spinner in the Twenty20 format. However, he has had an offer to captain South Australia over the next two seasons and this will provide valuable opportunities in broadening his experience in a leadership role. I must stress that Johan remains fully committed to South African cricket in the long run and he is by no means bringing down the curtain on his international career for the Proteas.”Botha said money was not a factor in his decision to sign with the Redbacks.”I remain fully committed to the Proteas in the long term but I would hate to look back on my career at the end and regret that I did not take this opportunity,” Botha said. “It is purely a cricket decision and there is no financial incentive in accepting it. If anything I will be earning less than I would as a contracted player.”Botha, 29, has not played first-class cricket in 15 months, although he has appeared in five Tests for South Africa. His presence at South Australia, combined with the availability of Nathan Lyon whenever his international commitments allow, will limit the opportunities for the state’s young spinners, including Cullen Bailey and Cameron Williams.
